Madam Florence

Florence

Madam Florence is the grandmother of 8 year old Maxwell, who is in Standard 2 and lives in Children's Garden Home. She is an odd job worker living in a one-room mud-walled tin shanty in Kibera Slum. Since her husband and Maxwell's parents passed away, Florence has been the sole provider to her youngest son, Brian in Standard 8, and Maxwell. Without a regular income, she struggles daily to put food on the table, pay rent and utilities. The future looks long and bleak but she is determined to support both children to attain the highest education possible, without which, they will be trapped in the vicious circle like her. The slum is a tough neighbourhood to bring up children. Florence is grateful that Children's Garden Home is able to provide food, loving environment and education for Maxwell to lessen her burden.
